Linkem S.p.A. is leader in Italy in the business of operating and constructing networks for broadband wireless connection on innovative protocols (Wi-Fi and Hiperlan). In March 2008, Linkem was awarded Wi-Max licences for 13 regions which cover more than 75% of Italy's resident population. Set up in 2001, Linkem currently services some of the most high-profile "hot spots" in Italy, including the Best Western Italia hotel chain, the service areas along the national highway system, the country's main airports, convention centres, and harbour facilities.  In addition to the "hot spot" division, Linkem has been active in "hot zones" since 2004, planning, executing and managing flexible and modular solutions aimed at introducing broadband in areas not yet covered by this service. The target customers for this business include municipalities, regions, provinces, industrial districts, mountain villages.
Since October 2008, Linkem has been activating Wi-Max connection service in a number of Italian cities, with Bari and Brescia being the first ones.
